Testing

Did you know God regularly tests the people he loves?

It is a regular occurrence in the Bible from Genesis 22:1, Deuteronomy 8:2, Psalms 11:4-5 to James 1:2-3, Revelation 2:10, and Hebrews 11:17.

Testing identifies weaknesses we can work on, strengths that we can show-off, and proves our commitment to persevere through adversity.

Our security testing is nowhere close to the same level as God’s testing.

But, the concept is very similar.

We test regularly because we care about our security: about keeping our business and client data protected; about keeping our servers and workstations free of attacks; and about keeping our employees free of scams and phishing.

Security testing identifies weaknesses (vulnerabilities), strengths (good security controls), and persevering through adversity (monitoring/alerting and responding to an attack).

The people of the Bible could not have fathomed the miracle of the Internet and modern-day computers.

But, the way we test these modern systems follows the same time-honored principles that they certainly would have understood.

After all, when it comes to fundamental principles, “there is nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9)
